About Marie-Jo

A lifetime devoted to understanding the body

For more than four decades, Marie-Jo’s life has revolved around movement, body awareness, education, massage, and one enduring belief: How we feel in our bodies influences how we experience our lives. ,

L’Art of Lightness is the expression of that journey, bringing together knowledge, intuition, human connection, and the art of personalized touch.

More Than a Career

Understanding the body has always been part of who she is

Marie-Jo began her professional life in France as a physical education professor, later teaching across middle school, high school, university, and teacher-training environments. Her work required more than teaching movement. It meant observing how different people move, learn, adapt, build confidence, respond to stress, and develop a relationship with their own bodies.

Over decades, those experiences shaped a deep understanding of movement, motor coordination, body awareness, and the close relationship between physical and mental well-being.

For Marie-Jo, the body has never been separate from the person. It carries our habits, our experiences, our emotions, our stresses, and the way we move through life.

Knowledge Built Over a Lifetime

Curiosity became expertise

Marie-Jo’s commitment to understanding the human body was matched by an equally strong commitment to education.

Her academic journey in France includes advanced qualifications in physical education and education sciences, including CAPES, a Master’s degree in Education Sciences, and the Agrégation, one of France’s most demanding national teaching qualifications.

But qualifications have never represented an endpoint for Marie-Jo. They reflect something more personal: a lifelong desire to understand more deeply, refine her knowledge, and continually improve the way she works with people.

That same curiosity continues to shape her approach today.

The Art of Touch

Massage was never separate from her understanding of the body

Marie-Jo’s experience with massage developed alongside her career in movement and education.

One of the earliest and most meaningful influences came through motherhood. Massaging her children from infancy showed her something simple but profound: attentive touch could create calm, connection, trust, and a visible sense of well-being.

Over time, massage became an increasingly important part of how she understood the relationship between the body and the mind. What began intuitively evolved through decades of experience into a highly personal philosophy of care.

Today, Marie-Jo does not begin with a predetermined sequence of movements. She begins by understanding the person by assessing:

  1. What feels comfortable?
  2. Where are they carrying tension?
  3. How are they feeling today?
  4. What do they want from this time?

The massage develops from there.

Experience Beyond One Place or One Perspective

Each place added something to how
she sees well-being

Marie-Jo’s teaching career and life took her well beyond mainland France.

She lived and worked across different cultures and environments, including French Polynesia, Réunion Island, and Mayotte, while her travels also exposed her to places such as Madagascar and Crete.

Those experiences broadened her understanding of how different cultures relate to the body, touch, natural wellness, ritual, rest, and personal care. Along the way, she encountered influences from Ayurvedic traditions and other approaches to hands-on well-being.

Marie-Jo does not present herself as an Ayurvedic practitioner. Rather, these experiences became part of the broader perspective she carries into her work today, an openness to different traditions, a respect for the individual, and the belief that there is rarely one universal approach to feeling well.

Why L’Art of A Signature Rooted in Provence

Aromatherapy is part of the experience,
not an afterthought

Marie-Jo’s connection to essential oils is deeply influenced by her French-Provençal heritage. In Provence, she completed three aromatherapy training courses taught by a pharmacist, including programs delivered in partnership with PRANARÔM. The training strengthened her understanding of essential oil quality, chemotypes, dilution, selection, and thoughtful use.

Today, aromatherapy is woven into the L’Art of Lightness experience as one of Marie-Jo’s signature elements. She values knowing what is being applied to the skin, where it comes from, and why it has been selected.

Every experience remains personal.

Preferences, allergies, sensitivities, and comfort are discussed beforehand, and an unscented experience is always available.

The Philosophy Behind L’Art of Lightness

The body deserves time, attention, and care

Marie-Jo believes that stress does not exist only in the mind. The way we live, work, move, rest, and respond to everyday pressures can influence how we experience our bodies.

Massage offers something increasingly rare:

  • Time without expectation
  • Time to stop responding to everything outside yourself
  • Time to become aware of your own body again
  • Time to simply be present

This belief became the foundation of L’Art of Lightness:

  • No massage performed quickly
  • Not a routine repeated from one client to the next
  • Not an impersonal experience built around volume

Instead:

  • Personal attention
  • Experienced hands
  • Time without rush
  • Care shaped around the individual

The Meaning Behind the Name

The art is in understanding the person.
The lightness is what she hopes they carry with them

“L’Art” represents the skill, intuition, judgment, and sensitivity that develop through decades of experience. No two people are identical, and no two massages should need to be identical either.

“Lightness” represents the feeling Marie-Jo wants every experience to move toward:

  • A quieter mind
  • A more relaxed body
  • A sense of release
  • A moment of reconnection with yourself

Together, they express the philosophy behind everything she does: The art of feeling lighter.

A Simple Belief

“Massage is for everybody.”

For Marie-Jo, massage should not be reserved for a particular age, lifestyle, or moment of difficulty. Everyone carries something. It could be either:

  • A busy schedule
  • Physical demands
  • Mental pressure
  • Responsibility
  • Change
  • The simple accumulation of everyday life

Everyone also deserves moments when nothing is required of them.

While Marie-Jo has particular experience with active and health-conscious adults and seniors, the philosophy behind L’Art of Lightness remains universal: Taking care of your body is relevant at every stage of life.

Experience You Can Trust

Knowledge behind the intuition

Marie-Jo’s approach is shaped by decades of education, observation, practice, and continued learning.

Her background includes:

Florida Licensed Massage Therapist: [Florida Massage Therapist License Number]

From France to Naples

A new chapter, built around everything,
that came before it

L’Art of Lightness brings Marie-Jo’s lifetime of experience into a quiet, private setting in Naples, Florida.

Appointments are intentionally limited. Not because the experience is exclusive for its own sake, but because Marie-Jo believes quality requires presence.

She wants enough time and energy to listen, prepare, adapt, and remain fully engaged with the person in front of her.

For Marie-Jo, the most meaningful outcome is simple: That someone leaves feeling cared for, calmer, lighter, and already looking forward to returning.
